This raccoon dog statue with comical facial expression is unglazed ceramics Shigaraki-yaki from Shiga prefecture, known as Japan's oldest center of ceramics production. Tanuki (japanese for racoon dog) was loved by the Japanese for centuries as symbol of prosperous business and good luck.
