Copper Care Instructions:
All of our custom Copper products are crafted by hand. During the process, each piece develops a beautiful patina, its own personal 'signature'. We have sealed the surface on certain items with three coats of paste wax, while others are left unfinished, to develop further patina over time.
Paste Wax Finish: We hand rub three coats of paste wax (often called butchers wax), buffing to a matte sheen. Clean with a damp cloth (no detergent) regularly. Depending on amount of use, re-apply a coat of wax (available at most home centers) every few months. Apply with a clean cotton cloth rubbing in circles. Allow the wax to haze over for approximately 5 minutes. Buff with a clean cotton cloth to the desired sheen.
Unfinished Copper: These items are left unfinished and will further develop a natural patina. Clean with a damp cloth (no detergent or copper cleaners) regularly. Over time, the surface will mellow and burnish to varying degrees, depending on its exposure to the elements. If you want to apply a sealer at some point, either a paste wax or spray lacquer is appropriate.
Keep in Mind that copper is a soft, malleable metal that reacts with heat, moisture and chemical exposure. Do not place hot objects directly on the copper, as it may cause the surface to expand and potentially buckle. Take care to not place abrasive or sharp objects on the surface. We suggest using breathable place mats (no rubber or plastic that can cause moisture to be trapped on the underside), coasters and padded trivets to protect the surface. Acidic foods and beverages (tomatoes, orange juice, wine, etc), if left on the surface, may actually clean the copper, so be careful to clean up as soon as possible. Remove standing water as soon as possible. With proper care, as with all fine furniture, the copper will show its true warmth and beauty for many years to come. Enjoy.
